Nandigram bypoll result prediction 2026: Nandigram votes on October 6 in one of West Bengal’s most politically symbolic constituencies. Counting is scheduled for October 9. This CareerSphere forecast uses the April result, the final candidate line-up and the latest campaign developments. It is not an exit poll.
Why Nandigram matters
Nandigram is closely associated with the political rise of Suvendu Adhikari and his long-running contest with Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari won Nandigram in the 2026 Assembly election but later retained Bhabanipur, leaving Nandigram vacant. The bypoll therefore tests whether the BJP can retain the seat without Adhikari personally contesting it.
Final contest
| Candidate | Party | Key factor |
|---|---|---|
| Hasirai Rath | BJP | Backed by Suvendu Adhikari and BJP organisation |
| Milan Pradhan | Congress | Backed by Mamata Banerjee’s TMC faction |
| Ehteshmul Haque | Democratic Trinamool Congress | Rival TMC faction |
| Shantigopal Giri | CPI | Left candidate |
April 2026 baseline
Election Commission results show Suvendu Adhikari won Nandigram with 127,301 votes, or about 50.37%, against Pabitra Kar’s 117,636 votes, about 46.55%. The BJP therefore starts from a clear two-party lead over the former TMC candidate.
What changed before the bypoll?
The political equation changed when the Mamata-led TMC faction withdrew Sanchita Pradhan Dey and extended support to Congress candidate Milan Pradhan. Pradhan then faced a legal setback and returned to campaigning after securing bail. BJP candidate Hasirai Rath, meanwhile, received sustained support from senior BJP leaders and Suvendu Adhikari in the final campaign days.
Our result prediction
Predicted winner: Hasirai Rath — BJP.
Confidence: Moderate. BJP has the strongest baseline because it won the seat comfortably in April and retains the organisational advantage of being the ruling party in West Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari’s personal network remains a major asset even though he is not the candidate.
Factors supporting BJP
- 2026 vote base: BJP crossed 50% in the April result.
- Adhikari factor: The former Nandigram MLA remains the central political figure in the constituency.
- Opposition fragmentation: Congress is supported by Mamata’s faction, but a rival Democratic Trinamool Congress candidate remains in the field.
- Ruling-party momentum: BJP formed the West Bengal government in 2026, making this its first major electoral test after taking power.
What could change the outcome?
The BJP margin could shrink if Congress succeeds in consolidating voters who previously supported the TMC and if the rival TMC faction has little independent impact. Milan Pradhan’s campaign after receiving bail is also an important late variable. Turnout by local communities could matter more than statewide popularity.

Final forecast
CareerSphere gives Hasirai Rath and the BJP the advantage in Nandigram, with moderate confidence. The April margin provides a substantial cushion, but the changed opposition arrangement means a close race cannot be ruled out.
